Some Other Methods Of Food Storage

Man has to be immensely concerned about the issue of food storage . Whether it is on a smaller scale for his own home or larger scale in the collective interest of the nation, he has to take steps to make sure that he is not put into a state of panic when any emergency situation arises.
Food Storage procedures have evolved from traditional methods of yore to very modern, scientific and innovative methods of food storage.
Generally, the most well known process for food preservation is drying, that is, dehydration procedures, freeze-drying processes, preserving in brine, sugar solutions etc. The drying procedures remove water content and prevent the grains and cereals like rice, maize, wheat etc from spoiling and getting rotten. These are then stored in granaries. These come in very handy when food has to be distributed to thousands of people at times of food scarcity caused by drought-induced famine conditions, when entire harvests are destroyed because of pests and plant diseases, at times of natural disasters like floods, tsunamis, cyclones etc.
There are emergency kits also put together by agencies, that provide for a couple or more number of days, whatever a person or a family needs for everyday usage, like ready to eat preserved food items, lights, stoves, water, clothing etc. It is better a family has these kits always with them. In times of emergency, they need not run hither and thither, trying to procure these items.
